Otto Scharmer, a lecturer at an American business school, tells is his recent book,
Theory U, about the day — during his childhood — that their house burned down near Hamburg in Germany. His 87-year-old grandfather found his father in the rubble, and told him:
"Keep your head up, my boy, look forward." These words were etched deeply into his young mind. He learned how to look past the seemingly insurmountable tragedy. That is also the secret of Elisha there in
2 Kings 6, but then on God's level.
When a group of heavily armored Aramaic soldiers encircle Dotan where Elisha and his servant stays, fear overcomes his poor servant. But Elisha immediately prays for God to open the servants eyes in order for him to see the Lord's heavenly army all around them. Then a miracle happens — this blind servant suddenly sees the mighty presence of the Lord. Here we see the key to a crisp new faith, namely that we need to develop a new set of eyes. I mean Elisha's type of eyes that can look past danger and see God behind and above everything!
